National Talent Search Examination is conducted by NCERT to find out the hidden talent for students studying in class X and nurture them. Every year NCERT conducts NTSE in two phases/stage
Stage-I – State Level
Stage- National Level
Scholarships: About 1000 scholarships are awarded at different level /stages of education.
Reservation: SC – 15%, ST – 7.5% Physically Challenged – 4%
Selection: Stage-I selection process is done by state/UTs, those who qualify stage-I is eligible for stage-II exam, conducted by NCERT
Qualifying Marks: General category – 40% , 32% for SC,ST & PH
Language Test: Qualifying in Language Test will not be counted for final merit.
Important Dates: Examination for Stage-II in all states/UT is on 13th May 2018 (for those students who passed stage I examination conducted in the month of November 2017.
Stage-I 2018 examination dates – Yet to come
Eligibility: All Class X student can appear for stage-I examination. There is no domicile restriction.
Open distance learning students can also appear for the examination but there age should be below 18 years as of 1st july 2018 . He/she should be unemployed. H/She going to give the first attempt for class X examination.

At Stage II – (National Level), there will negative marking for each wrong answer. 1/3 marks will deducted for each wrong answer. No negative marking for unattempted questions.
Application Form: Please contact State/UT liaison officer to get application form and to know the process. You can get the address, contact of the liaison officer of your State/UT from NCERT website(www.ncert.nic.in ).
Please don’t send application to NCERT, all queries related to application must be directed to State/UTs liaison officer
Fee related queries – All students may ask their respective State/UT liaison officer for stage-I fee related queries, mode of payment before submitting the application form. There is no charge for Stage-II examination.
For class X Student studying abroad – They can appear for stage-II exam directly under consition mentined in the NTS brochure. Please visit NCERT website for more information.
